SafeKey® Pay with Points Terms and Conditions

1.     Introduction

1.1. These “SafeKey Pay with Points” Terms and Conditions (hereinafter the "SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs") govern the use of “SafeKey Pay with Points” on the following Cards issued by AMEX (Middle East) B.S.C. (c) or AMEX (Middle East) B.S.C - Emirates ("AEME" or “our”).

The American Express® Card (Green)

The American Express® Platinum Credit Card

1.2. Card Members should review these SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs thoroughly to understand their rights and obligations related to the usage of the SafeKey Pay with Points. These SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs must be read in conjunction with the Card Member Agreement, the Membership Rewards programme Terms and Conditions and all other terms and conditions that are available on our website. Any term used in this SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs document, but not expressly defined herein, shall have the meaning given to it in the Card Member Agreement (available on our website). In the event of any contradiction between these SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs, the Card Member Agreement, or the Schedule of Fees and Charges, these SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs shall prevail to the extent of such inconsistency.

 

2.     Definitions

2.1. SafeKey Pay with Points is a redemption option under the Membership Rewards programme where, subject to meeting the Eligibility Criteria, Basic Card Members can redeem a specified number of Membership Rewards points (hereinafter “points”) accrued in their Membership Rewards Account, for a statement credit to their Card Account, which is equal to the amount of an online Transaction (excluding any associated Fee and Charges, taxes and currency exchange variations) made using an Eligible Card, at participating Service Establishments offering American Express SafeKey® authentication with the SafeKey Pay with Points option at checkout.

 

3.     Eligibility Criteria

3.1. Eligible Cards must be enrolled in the Membership Rewards programme.

3.2. The Card Account must be active i.e. not blocked or cancelled and with no overdue payments on the Card.

3.3. The Basic Card being used to make the Transaction and SafeKey Pay with Points redemption must be linked to the Membership Rewards Account from which the points are redeemed.

3.4. The Card Member’s Membership Rewards Account must have a points balance that is at least equal to the number of points required to complete the SafeKey Pay with Points redemption for the Transaction, at the time of making a SafeKey Pay with Points redemption request and until the corresponding statement credit is posted to the Card Account.

3.5. A SafeKey Pay with Points redemption can be requested for a minimum of 1,000 points per transaction.

3.6. SafeKey Pay with Points redemption is not allowed for a statement credit less than the Transaction amount.

 

4.     Use of SafeKey Pay with Points and utilisation of the statement credit

4.1. The SafeKey Pay with Points feature is only available only at participating Service Establishments which offer American Express SafeKey® authentication with the SafeKey Pay with Points option at checkout online.

4.2. SafeKey Pay with Points redemption requests shall be allowed only for online Transactions which are authenticated using American Express SafeKey® at checkout and are authorized.

4.3. When a SafeKey Pay with Points redemption request is made for a Transaction and the Card meets the Eligibility Criteria, the Card Member’s accrued points will be redeemed from their Membership Rewards Account and a statement credit of an amount equal to the Transaction amount will be posted into the Card Account, typically within 72 hours from the date on which the Transaction is made.

4.4. For Transactions made in a currency other than the billing currency of the Card Account, the amount of statement credit arising from the redemption of points under SafeKey Pay with Points may differ from the Transaction amount debited to the Card Account as it excludes any applicable Fees and Charges including Conversion Processing Fee for Non-Billing Currency Transactions, taxes including value added tax, and currency exchange rate differences, as detailed in the Card Member Agreement and the Schedule of Fees and Charges.

4.5. SafeKey Pay with Points redemption and the associated statement credit cannot be stopped or reversed, if the Transaction is subsequently cancelled or reversed.

4.6. In the event, AEME is unable to complete the SafeKey Pay with Points redemption and apply the statement credit within 72 hours from the Transaction date, due to any reason, it may notify the Card Member through channels as it deems appropriate.

4.7. The statement credit will be applied as a payment to the Card account on which the Transaction was made.

4.8. Statement Credits applied to the Card Account arising from redemption under SafeKey Pay with Points cannot be exchanged for other rewards and is not refundable or exchangeable for cash under any circumstances.

4.9. The Card Member must not withhold any payment due on the Card Account based upon the expectation of receiving a future credit to the Card Account through SafeKey Pay with Points.

4.10. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in these SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs, a Transaction for which points have been redeemed under SafeKey Pay with Points shall not be eligible for any other form of Membership Rewards redemption, or other rewards programs offered by AEME.

 

5.     Fees and Charges

5.1. All fees and charges are applicable to Card Transactions for which points have been redeemed using SafeKey Pay with Points, as detailed in your Card Member Agreement and the Schedule of Fees and Charges.

 

6.     Limitations and Suspension

6.1. AEME shall, at all times, have the right to unilaterally change all or any of the provisions of these SafeKey Pay with Points T&Cs. AEME will notify the Card Member of any changes in a manner that AEME deems appropriate.
